Firstly, follow me on Twitter! @makeupdiaries1
I found that getting engagement from others on twitter is quite difficult if you have minimal followers. Through re-tweeting a couple ‘famous’ beauty-guru’s tweets, I manage to gain four followers, which seem to be following them as well. The tweets I re-tweeted that helped me gain a following included one from Jeffree Star’s account and another from Kylie Jenner’s. Both had something to do with makeup.

It took me quite a while to figure out what would give my posts the most attention on twitter. First, I looked into the most active and popular ones (while still being relevant to my topic of choice, makeup) and found that these included #makeup, #beauty, #blog and #drama. The first tweet I published was just my own and not a reply. This tweet gained a total of 54 impressions and one link click.
For my other original tweet, I decided to take a different approach and make it a reply to an already existing post. This reply was to Kylie Jenner, an A-list celebrity. I did this because I knew I would get some sort of engagement, and I was right. The post itself received an astonishing 1,477 impressions (and counting) with 10 link clicks! Although this approach only added 2 more users to me following count. Also for this post, I decided that instead of using the same hashtags and plan them out, I would write my whole tweet down and insert hashtags in words I thought would be relevant and gain exposure. This included words such as, #excited, #makeup, and #scary. I also made sure to add in #halloween as it is October and the topic is relevant to today!
For both posts, I found it quite difficult to summarise it into only 280 characters, especially when hashtags counted as one. I kept deleting and changing words, while still trying to make as much sense as possible. The second post made it extremely hard, especially with the very long link (which I then found out afterwards, I could have shortened all my links).
